Global funds are selling off Thai bonds in large quantities, causing a significant outflow of funds, reaching a new high since 2022.
Due to the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, investors are withdrawing from emerging markets. Global funds sold over $1 billion worth of Thai bonds this month, leading to the largest outflow of foreign capital in four years for the market. Data from the Thai Bond Market Association shows that overseas investors net sold $1.2 billion in bonds last Friday, the largest single-day amount since March 2022. Foreign investors also reduced their holdings of Thai stocks by $1.2 billion, potentially setting a record for the largest monthly outflow in two years.
