Volkswagen CEO: German car companies should learn from China's planning model.
Oliver Blume, CEO of Volkswagen, stated in an interview published on Sunday that the German automotive industry can learn from the meticulous and orderly industrial planning in China. The car manufacturer is currently undergoing a deep restructuring to stay competitive. "The approach of the Chinese is highly planned... the prioritization of goals is clear, and the overall structure design is very reasonable," Blume said in the interview. "We have truly felt in China that there is a high level of execution and implementation willingness, which is very impressive. It is necessary for us to broaden our perspective and look outward. There are many aspects of China's development model that are worth learning from." Blume also pointed out that Volkswagen faces fierce competition in the Chinese market, noting that there are "over 150 competitors locally, and the momentum of innovation is very strong." As part of ongoing transformation and reform, Volkswagen plans to cut 50,000 jobs in Germany by 2030.
