Recently, in the state of Hawaii in the United States, there have been floods due to heavy rainfall, and an emergency flood warning was issued on the north shore of the surfing destination of Waialea Bay on the 20th. The muddy floodwaters submerged streets and vehicles, and washed houses off their foundations. The city government of Honolulu, the capital of the state, warned that the Waiahole dam, which has a history of 120 years, is "at risk of imminent dam failure", and therefore issued an evacuation order for about 5,500 residents downstream of the dam. According to the Associated Press, this earthen dam was built in 1906 by an agricultural company for irrigation of sugar cane fields, and collapsed in 1921 before being rebuilt.
