Major European airlines issued warnings on Thursday that due to ongoing tensions in Iran and the continued detention of oil tankers in the Persian Gulf, they will have to pass on higher fuel costs to passengers. Many airlines in the region have already prepared themselves to withstand the impact of the soaring oil prices in the short term. However, the CEO of Ryanair Holdings stated that any additional costs would result in ticket price increases. The CEO of Lufthansa Airlines in Germany said, "The average profit for our company is about 10 euros (approximately 11 US dollars) per passenger. We cannot afford any additional costs."
