On March 18, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a routine press conference. A reporter asked about the recent concerns in Taiwan due to the turmoil in the Middle East, where the island is facing risks of oil and gas shortages, leading to high levels of concern in Taiwan about energy resource reserves and supply. This has also drawn attention to the fact that the mainland proposed for the first time in October last year that Taiwan would have "seven improvements" after reunification, one of which includes "with a powerful motherland as a backing, Taiwan's energy resource security will be better." Can you explain this? Spokesperson Chen Binhua pointed out that achieving reunification peacefully is most beneficial for the compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the entire nation. Peaceful reunification will create tremendous opportunities for economic and social development in Taiwan, bringing tangible benefits to the people there, including "with a powerful motherland as a backing, Taiwan's energy resource security will be better." Mainland China's abundant electricity supply is sufficient to meet the electricity demands of Taiwanese enterprises, allowing households in Taiwan to bid farewell to inconveniences and worries regarding electricity shortages and restrictions during the summer. Chen Binhua stated that after peaceful reunification, cross-strait connectivity will be achieved, and Taiwan's shortages in electricity, natural gas, and crude oil will be fully compensated for, providing reliable security for Taiwan's energy resources and enabling Taiwanese people to enjoy cheaper, cleaner, and more stable energy supply, thus reducing the burden on households and businesses in terms of energy consumption. We are willing to provide stable and reliable energy resource security for the Taiwanese people, allowing them to live better lives.
