In the election of the President of the Senate held on the 17th in Yaound, the capital of Cameroon, Abubakar Abdullahi was elected as the new President of the Senate. At the plenary session of the Senate, Abdullahi, the candidate of the ruling party, the Cameroon People's Democratic Union, ran for election and was elected with 100% of the votes, replacing Njingfenji, who has been the President of the Senate since 2013. Abdullahi is 64 years old and previously served as the First Vice President of the Cameroon Senate and Secretary of State for Agriculture and Rural Development. He is also the traditional leader of the Rey-Bouba chiefdom in the Northern Region of Cameroon. The Cameroon Parliament has a bicameral system, consisting of the National Assembly and the Senate. The Senate has a total of 100 seats, with 70 seats elected by municipal councilors and 30 seats appointed directly by the President.
