Zelensky promises EU to repair "Friendship" oil pipeline within one and a half months
Ukrainian President Zelensky wrote a letter to the leaders of the European Union on the 17th, promising to repair the damaged "Friendship" oil pipeline within about a month and a half, and restore the supply of oil to countries in Central and Eastern Europe. In the letter, Zelensky detailed the timetable for the repair work to European Commission President von der Leyen and European Council President Michel. He pointed out that due to the attack by Russia, a crucial pump station in Brody was completely shut down, and the damaged oil storage tanks could not be repaired. He stated that as long as there are no new attacks, it is expected that the Brody pump station will restore its technical capability within a month and a half to ensure full supply restoration. Zelensky emphasized in the letter that the claim that Ukraine intentionally blocked the oil flow of the "Friendship" pipeline is unfounded. He also accepted the EU's proposal for technical and financial assistance and instructed the head of Ukraine's national oil and gas company to coordinate with the EU Ambassador to Ukraine. It is reported that European Commission President von der Leyen and European Council President Michel provided technical and financial assistance to Ukraine in their letter to Zelensky on March 16 to restore oil supply to Hungary and Slovakia via the "Friendship" pipeline.
