Dutch International: European companies seem more prepared to deal with the energy shock than in 2022.
Analysts from the Dutch international group stated in a report that European companies seem to be more prepared to deal with the current energy shock compared to 2022. They noted that since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, energy demand in many industries has decreased. Companies have taken measures to reduce their energy exposure, invest in renewable energy and higher energy-efficient processes, implement electrified production, and increase long-term energy contracts. They said, "The chemical industry stands out in particular." Even the aviation and shipping industries have achieved significant efficiency improvements, which are among the most energy-intensive industries in Europe. However, these efficiency improvements are often offset by disruptive trading patterns. These analysts said, "We believe that compared to 2022, companies are now more prepared for rising energy prices."
