China has developed a new generation of attenuated smallpox vaccine.

On March 16, according to China Biological News, the national key laboratory for the research and development of new vaccines for emerging infectious diseases at the China Biological Institute recently published a series of research results on the construction and screening methods of recombinant virus vaccines in the international renowned virology journals "Journal of Virology" and "Journal of Virological Methods". This has enriched the technical path for the development of new vaccines for emerging infectious diseases and developed a new generation of attenuated live monkeypox vaccine. The research results show that the introduction of CRISPR-Cas gene editing technology allows for the multi-site and precise editing of the virus genome, avoiding the technical drawbacks of low integration efficiency and slow strain acquisition of the previous homologous recombination technology.
