On March 15th local time, the Republic of Congo held presidential elections, with a total of 7 candidates including the incumbent President Denis Sassou Nguesso running for office. The African Union Commission announced that its election observation mission had arrived in Congo to monitor the presidential election. According to the country's constitution, a candidate can be elected in the first round of voting if they receive more than half of the votes; if no one receives more than half, the top two candidates will compete in a second round 21 days after the Constitutional Court announces the results.
