Meta may lay off at least 20% of its employees.
According to sources, Meta is planning to carry out a large-scale layoff that may affect 20% or more of the company's employees, as Meta seeks to offset the expensive bet on artificial intelligence infrastructure and prepare for improving the efficiency of AI-assisted employees. The sources mentioned that the date of the layoff is not set and the scale is not yet finalized. Two sources familiar with the matter stated that the company's top management recently conveyed this plan to other senior leaders at Meta and asked them to begin planning for the layoffs. These sources are anonymous because they are not authorized to disclose details about the layoffs. If Meta's confirmed layoff rate is 20%, this layoff will be the most significant since the company's restructuring known as the "year of efficiency" at the end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. According to its latest filing, as of December 31, the company had nearly 79,000 employees.
