Due to escalating tensions in the Middle East and concerns about inflation dampening risk appetite, US retail investors' consistent strong support for stocks has weakened. A team led by Morgan Stanley strategist Arun Jain stated that after strong demand throughout the year, including seasonal performance, retail investors' weekly buying intensity has decreased by about 30%. The team wrote: "This is the first time this year that retail investors have shown signs of sustained weakness. Monday became the largest day of net selling of individual stocks in a month, followed by net buying on Tuesday and Wednesday, but the pace remains below the average level from the beginning of the year."
