Reporters from the central station learned that on the local time of March 12th, a spokesperson for the German Federal Police announced that on the night of March 11th, two trains collided in the city of Bayreuth in the German state of Bavaria. The accident resulted in 8 people injured, including one person seriously injured. After the accident, railway services were temporarily suspended. The spokesperson stated that the police operation has now ended and train services are being restored. The two damaged trains are currently parked on the tracks. Preliminary investigations indicate that two regional trains collided at the Bayreuth Central Station, with one train carrying a driver and 13 passengers entering the station, while the other empty train was involved in shunting and refueling operations. The two trains collided head-on, causing severe damage. The police spokesperson stated that they are investigating whether the driver of the shunting train may have overlooked the approaching passenger train. Rescue workers checked all passengers and train drivers at the scene. According to the spokesperson, one train driver was seriously injured and taken to the hospital, while 4 others with moderate injuries and 3 with minor injuries received treatment on-site. The rest of the passengers have been confirmed safe. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
