Castro sworn in as President of Chile
Chile's newly elected President Jos Antonio Casta took office on the 11th, beginning a four-year term. The presidential power handover ceremony took place at the National Congress in Valparaso, Chile's second largest city. Casta received the presidential sash and the symbol of presidential power, the O'Higgins emblem, from outgoing President Borch. The ceremony also saw the appointment of the new cabinet members. The presidents of Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, and King Felipe VI of Spain, among other heads of state, attended the ceremony.
