Breakthrough in the field of diabetes treatment in China: Stem cell regeneration of pancreatic islets transplantation moves towards clinical application.
On March 9th, at a results presentation held in Shanghai, Professor Yin Hao's team from the Second Affiliated Hospital of the Naval Medical University, along with the team of researcher Cheng Xin from the Molecular Cell Science Excellence Innovation Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, announced their latest research progress. The team, for the first time internationally, used both autologous and allogeneic stem cell-derived regenerated islets for minimally invasive transplantation, for the purpose of pancreatic function reconstruction and blood glucose self-regulation in type 1 diabetes patients. The related research was published in "The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology".
