The federal court in the United States ruled that Perplexity AI must stop using its Comet web browser plugin to make purchases on Amazon's online marketplace on behalf of shoppers. Amazon filed a lawsuit against Perplexity, accusing them of committing computer fraud for not disclosing their use of the Comet plugin when shopping on behalf of real customers, and for refusing to comply when asked by Amazon to stop. The ruling requires Perplexity to cease accessing password-protected parts of the Amazon system and to destroy any copies of Amazon data that they have obtained. The effective date of the ruling has been delayed by one week to allow Perplexity to file an appeal.
