Canadian Minister of Industry Melanie Joly announced on March 9 local time that the Canadian government has completed a further review of the investment case of TikTok Canada and has decided to allow the investment to proceed, but TikTok must comply with a series of legally binding new commitments, including strengthening protection measures for personal information of Canadian users and minors. The Canadian government stated that this decision will protect Canadian jobs and ensure TikTok's physical presence in Canada.
