Chen Lei, director of the Development Strategy and Planning Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, stated at a press conference that during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period, China will improve its modern integrated transportation system, basically complete the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed railway main channels and national highway network, promote the quality upgrade of high-grade inland waterways, basically build a world-class port group and airport group, implement major engineering projects such as the high-standard along the Yangtze River high-speed railway corridor, construction of a new navigation channel for the Three Gorges, and the promotion of highway safety resilience enhancement. At the same time, efforts will be made to strengthen coverage and accessibility in weak areas, and to promote the renewal, transformation, and management of transportation infrastructure.
