Property organization releases annual data, China's international patent applications continue to lead.
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released a news bulletin on the 6th, stating that by 2025, the total number of international patent applications submitted through the WIPO Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) framework reached 275,900, with strong growth in the field of digital communication and semiconductors. China's international patent applications through the PCT reached 73,718, still the highest among all countries. Data shows that in 2025, the number of international patent applications submitted through the PCT framework increased by 0.7% compared to 2024, marking the second consecutive year of growth. Digital communication accounted for the highest proportion of international patent applications under the PCT, with other major areas including computer technology, electrical machinery, medical technology, and pharmaceuticals.
