Venezuela confirms agreement to restore diplomatic and consular relations with the United States.
On the 5th local time, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry issued a statement announcing that after establishing diplomatic dialogue with the United States, the governments of the two countries have decided to restore diplomatic and consular relations. Earlier that day, the U.S. State Department announced that the United States and the Venezuelan government had agreed to restore diplomatic and consular relations. Due to continued U.S. interference in Venezuelan internal affairs, Venezuela severed diplomatic relations with the United States in January 2019, and all diplomatic personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela were evacuated in March of the same year.
