Interpretation of the Report: New Achievements in High-Quality Development in the 14th Five-Year Plan Period
At today's press briefing held by the State Council Information Office, Shen Danyang, head of the drafting team of the government work report and director of the State Council Research Office, introduced that in the past five years, facing extraordinary challenges, we not only stabilized the macroeconomic situation, but also achieved new results in promoting high-quality development, which is very difficult, very complex, and very remarkable. In terms of economic scale and growth rate, over the past five years, China's total economy has grown from over 103 trillion yuan at the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan to over 140 trillion yuan, jumping by almost 10 trillion yuan each year, with a total economic growth of over 35 trillion yuan in five years, equivalent to the total economy of a medium-sized economic entity. The average annual economic growth rate over the past five years reached 5.4%, significantly higher than other major economies in the world, as well as higher than the global average growth rate. In terms of science, technology, and industrial innovation closely related to economic development quality, over the past five years, a number of major scientific research achievements have emerged rapidly, and the list of domestically controllable technologies is getting longer. More and more technologies and industries are at the forefront or running in parallel with the world. In terms of social welfare that economic development should create, in the past five years, the welfare of China's people has reached a new level.
