On the 4th local time, John Jeremy, Attorney General of Trinidad and Tobago, stated that due to threats of further violence by gang organizations, President Carmona declared a state of emergency in Trinidad and Tobago. The state of emergency took effect at midnight that day, granting law enforcement and the military greater powers to address the surge in violence related to gangs. Organized crime has been rampant in Trinidad and Tobago in recent years. On July 18, 2025, President Carmona declared a state of emergency for three months due to escalating criminal activity. It was later extended for another three months until January 31 of this year. On March 3, gang organizations once again issued threats of escalating violence.
