Insider: Japan and the United States aim to increase nuclear power projects within a $550 billion package investment plan.
Two informed sources said on Wednesday that Japan and the United States are working to include a nuclear power project in Japan's 550 billion dollar comprehensive investment plan. The sources said the nuclear power project will involve Westinghouse and is aimed at strengthening the energy supply chain between the two countries, as concerns about energy security have been reignited by the war in the Middle East. The sources said that because this matter is of a private nature, they are not willing to reveal their names, and several transactions are currently being discussed, with the possibility of being announced when Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan meets with US President Trump in Washington on March 19. As part of the US tariff agreement, Tokyo is rushing to establish deals under investment commitments. Tokyo has already announced three projects with a total value of $36 billion, including a natural gas power plant in Ohio. The sources said that a copper smelting and refining facility construction project is also under consideration.
