Iraq is preparing to open a large-scale cut of 3 million barrels, fearing that the shortage of energy supply may further worsen.
According to sources, Iraq has begun shutting down production at the giant Rumaila oil field operated by a British oil company. The source said that due to difficulties in getting oil tankers to leave the Persian Gulf, storage space has run out, forcing the field to close. He pointed out that if the current situation continues, Iraq is prepared to reduce production by 3 million barrels per day. Rumaila oil field is one of the largest in the world, managed jointly by the British oil company, Iraq, and China National Petroleum Corporation. According to the company's data, the field had a daily production of over 1.4 million barrels in 2024, with production last year starting at about 1.2 million barrels per day. Earlier, sources familiar with the situation revealed that Iraq has also stopped exporting crude oil from its semi-autonomous Kurdish region to Turkey's Ceyhan port.
