Oxford Economic Research Institute: The Eurozone inflation may be able to withstand the impact of energy prices.
Riccardo Marcelli Fabiani, an economist at the Oxford Economics Research Institute, said that despite the tense situation in the Middle East and a slight increase in inflation in February, the risk of out-of-control inflation in the Eurozone is very low. The overall inflation rate rose from 1.7% in January to 1.9%, and the core inflation rate rose from 2.2% to 2.4%. The economist stated that although the conflict in Iran will push up energy prices, its impact on Eurozone inflation should not be exaggerated, as oil supply will gradually begin to exceed demand again, and energy has a relatively small weight in the overall consumer price index basket.
