Altman admits that the agreement between OpenAI and the US Department of Defense was "opportunistic and hasty", and plans to add clauses to define principles.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that the company's previous rush to reach an agreement with the US Department of Defense after a dispute with its competitor Anthropic PBC at the Pentagon seemed "opportunistic and hasty." In a post on social media platform X, Altman said the company is working with the Department of Defense to "add some provisions to the agreement to very clearly articulate our principles." This includes ensuring that artificial intelligence will not be used for domestic surveillance of Americans, and intelligence agencies like the NSA cannot rely on OpenAI's services.
