OpenAI Ultraman: US defense intelligence agencies will not use OpenAI's services
On March 2nd local time, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced that the company has partnered with the US Department of Defense to add clauses to the agreement to clarify principles. Altman stated that artificial intelligence systems shall not be intentionally used for domestic monitoring of US citizens and residents, and intentional tracking, surveillance, or monitoring of US citizens and residents is prohibited, including acquiring personal or identifiable information through commercial channels. The company advocates for advancing work through democratic processes, and major social decisions should be made by the government. The company demands a voice and the opportunity to contribute expertise at the decision-making table. Altman stated that the Department of Defense has confirmed that its subordinate Intelligence Agency of the Department of War will not use the company's services. If services are needed to be provided to these agencies, existing contracts must be modified accordingly.
