The Red Sea has experienced "unforeseen restrictions," causing Maersk to reroute some ships around the Cape of Good Hope.
Maersk announced via email that, due to some "unforeseen restrictions" in the wider operating environment in the Red Sea region, the company is instructing some vessels to reroute through the southern tip of Africa. "After consultation with our security partners, it became clear that avoiding delays when transiting the region presented challenges." Maersk did not disclose what these restrictions entail. "As a result, we have decided to temporarily reroute part of our upcoming ME11 and MECL services from crossing the Suez Canal to Cape of Good Hope." Maersk described this as a "temporary adjustment."
