The South Korean government allows Google to export high-precision maps.
On February 27, the South Korean government decided to conditionally allow companies like Google to export high-precision maps at a scale of 1:5000. The South Korean government stated that Google has agreed to most of the conditions set by the government, including blurring military and security facilities in South Korea, deleting coordinate markings of South Korean territory, and limiting the public release of the maps. The South Korean government said that the navigation maps obtained by Google will be processed by domestic cooperating companies in South Korea servers using the original data, and will be used for navigation services after government verification. Since 2007, Google has requested high-precision maps three times in order to smoothly provide South Korean map services. However, the South Korean government has consistently opposed exporting high-precision maps containing information about military bases and other security facilities overseas.
