The Supreme People's Court held a press conference today to introduce the work of the people's courts in lawfully punishing telecommunications and internet fraud and financial crimes. According to the introduction, the people's courts adhere to the principle of "heavy punishment" and implement strict punishment requirements in terms of conviction, sentencing, and property disposal to effectively combat telecommunications and internet fraud crimes and curb the trend of frequent occurrence of crimes. For the ringleaders and key members of transnational telecommunications fraud criminal groups, as well as those involved in intentional homicide, intentional injury, kidnapping and other violent crimes, strict and severe punishment is enforced. By the end of 2025, national courts have concluded over 27,000 first-instance cases related to telecommunications fraud in northern Myanmar, sentencing more than 41,000 individuals involved in telecommunications fraud in northern Myanmar. In particular, the cases of the "Four major families" crime group in northern Myanmar, namely the Ming family and the Bai family, have completed all trial procedures, with 39 people sentenced to life imprisonment or higher penalties, including 16 people sentenced to immediate execution of the death penalty. The two transnational armed criminal groups have been completely destroyed, effectively combating the arrogance of lawless individuals at home and abroad.
