EU member states are only a few weeks away from deciding the new location of the customs agency. This process could become the first point of contention in the race for the next President of the European Central Bank. On February 25, the European Council stated that the new location for the EU Customs Agency will be selected on March 25. Nine countries, including France, Italy, Poland, and Spain, will put forward candidate cities. Choosing a location for EU institutions is a routine procedure, but this selection comes at a sensitive time as the EU is engaged in internal power struggles over senior positions. Half of the members of the Executive Committee of the European Central Bank need to be selected by the end of 2027, including the successor to the current President, Lagarde.
