Foreign media survey: Most economists believe Lagarde will resign this year.
According to a survey of economists by foreign media, European Central Bank President Lagarde is expected to leave the ECB before the end of her term, paving the way for Klaas Knot to succeed her as president. Over half of the respondents expect Lagarde to resign this year. Less than 30% predict that she will complete her eight-year term, which ends in October next year. If Lagarde resigns early, about 57% of economists believe that former Dutch central bank governor Knot is the most likely to succeed her. If she completes her term, International Settlements Bank President Pablo Hernndez de Cos is seen as a potential successor to the ECB presidency.
