Kenya plans to hold its first renewable energy auction by the end of 2026, following an eight-year freeze on new power supply contracts with the national utility company Kenya Power. Although the ban prevented the signing of expensive and opaque bilateral agreements, the sharp increase in electricity demand has made it urgent to add new sources of power generation.
