The election of the new Central Political Bureau members of the Workers' Party of Korea was held.

The first expanded meeting of the 9th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was held at the headquarters of the Central Committee on the 23rd, electing a new Politburo Standing Committee led by Kim Jong Un, the General Secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea. The meeting communique showed that the new members of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea are: Kim Jong Un, Pak Thae Song, Jo Yong Won, Kim Jong Ryong, Ri Il Hwan.
