Trump pressured Netflix to remove former Democratic government officials from the board of directors
The acquisition of part of Warner Bros. Discovery by the American streaming giant Netflix again encountered political obstacles. President Trump has pressured Netflix to remove Susan Rice, who has held multiple positions in Democratic Party governments, from the board of directors. Trump posted on social media over the weekend, calling Rice a "racist", a "political hack" of former Democratic Party presidents Obama and Biden, and "incompetent". Netflix should "immediately" remove her, "otherwise they will bear the consequences". Rice served as Director of the White House Domestic Policy Council from 2021 to 2023 in the Biden administration, and as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and National Security Advisor to the President in the Obama administration from 2009 to 2017. Earlier, she served as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs during the Clinton administration, another Democratic Party president. She served as a Netflix director from 2018 to 2021, and will return to the Netflix board in 2023.
