One of the largest suppliers of enriched uranium fuel in the United States issued a warning that supply is about to run short due to rapid demand growth and a ban on imports from Russia. Centrus Energy CEO Amir Vexler said the company is accelerating the expansion of its enriched uranium production capacity at its Ohio factory to meet a backlog of $2.3 billion in enriched uranium orders. But he said the restart of several nuclear power plants in the United States and upgrades to reactors to increase power output will put pressure on a few Western enriched uranium suppliers. "I think the market is currently tight and this tightness will continue until a significant amount of new production capacity comes online, which is probably going to take another decade," he said (Financial Times).
