J.P. Morgan Chase has submitted a request to the court to transfer the lawsuit brought by Donald Trump regarding the closure of his accounts from Miami to be tried in the federal court in New York. The company stated in the documents submitted that Trump and several of his businesses agreed in writing when opening accounts that any disputes would be litigated in New York, where the bank is headquartered. J.P. Morgan Chase also said that transferring the case is in the public interest because of the overwhelming connection to New York. According to the bank's filings, the accounts in question were opened in New York, the bankers managing these accounts are in New York, and the alleged activities that sparked Trump's lawsuit also took place in New York. Trump sued the bank and its CEO, Jamie Dimon, in January for at least $5 billion, alleging that the bank engaged in "debanking" him and his companies after his supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
