Japanese cargo ship and tourist boat collide, many people dead or injured.
According to reports from Japanese media, this afternoon, a collision occurred between a cargo ship and a leisure fishing boat near the coast of Toba City in Mie Prefecture, Japan. The leisure fishing boat was split in half and capsized, with all 13 people on board thrown into the sea. Although all personnel have been rescued, two are in cardiopulmonary arrest, and seven others are injured, with two in serious condition. The cargo ship involved in the incident is responsible for transporting steel and is owned by a shipping company in Hiroshima Prefecture. The ship departed from Aichi Prefecture and was headed for Okayama Prefecture. The boat that was hit was described as a leisure fishing boat where people can experience the fun of fishing, departing from the Kuniyaki Fishing Port in Toba City. The boat was equipped with devices such as fish finders and sonar, providing services for individual customers and chartered trips. The Japan Coast Guard is currently investigating the accident, and the National Transportation Safety Board of Japan plans to send investigators to the scene to further determine the cause of the accident.
