United Nations: Over a hundred people killed and injured in previous conflicts in eastern Congo.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released a report on February 18 stating that from January 12 to 16, armed conflicts broke out between pro-government militias and the anti-government armed group "M23 Movement" in the Rutshuru area of North Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo, resulting in at least 50 civilian deaths, multiple injuries, and a large number of people displaced. In addition, in early January, government forces carried out airstrikes against positions of the anti-government armed group, resulting in 11 deaths and approximately 40 injuries.
