Taxi drivers across Greece are on strike.
On February 18th and 19th local time, taxi drivers across Greece went on strike, demanding that the government postpone the implementation of the new requirement for taxis to be electric vehicles. The Greek government is currently pushing for legislation that would require all new registered taxis in the capital city, Athens, and the second largest city, Thessaloniki, to be zero-emission electric vehicles starting from January 1st, 2026. However, the taxi industry association has stated that there are not enough charging stations in Greek cities to meet the demand, and they are demanding that the government postpone the implementation of this regulation.
