Spain will investigate AI-generated images regarding companies such as X and Meta.
The Spanish government has stated that it is requesting prosecutors to investigate the potential criminal implications of AI-generated images on minors against companies such as X and Meta Platforms. As AI technology becomes increasingly powerful, this move intensifies scrutiny on how tech giants operate their platforms. A government minister said on Tuesday that in less than two weeks, around 3 million AI-generated nude images have been widely circulated online, prompting authorities in Madrid to urge prosecutors to investigate possible crimes such as child pornography and mistreatment of minors. Spanish Minister of Social Inclusion, Social Security, and Immigration, Elma Sales, said at a press conference, "We cannot allow all of this to be amplified or encouraged by algorithms." She also stated, "The safety of our children is at stake." Prime Minister Pedro Snchez posted on X demanding an investigation, stating that companies like X and Meta are harming the "mental health, dignity, and rights of children."
