Catherine Mann, a member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee, said that the current UK economy is experiencing "weak growth and soft performance", with high inflation causing consumers to be "deeply traumatized", leading to a reduction in consumer spending. This MPC member pointed out that key elements supporting economic growth are currently missing. "The core of the supply side of the economy is productivity growth, business investment, and labor, and none of these are currently functioning," she said, "This is a problem."
