Wang Yi Meets with French Foreign Minister Le Drian
On the 13th, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian during the Munich Security Conference. Wang Yi said: "We have just successfully held the first trilateral meeting of foreign ministers of China, France, and Germany, sending out positive signals to the world. In the face of a more chaotic and complex world, facing challenges to multilateralism, the three major countries of China, France, and Germany should stand up to uphold the purposes of the UN Charter, uphold true multilateralism, uphold the free trade system, and provide more positive energy to the world." Wang Yi also mentioned the positive momentum of Sino-French relations since President Macron's visit to China, emphasizing the importance of mutual trust and cooperation in various fields. Both China and France are independent and responsible major countries, and multilateral cooperation is an important feature of their relationship.
Le Drian expressed that President Macron's successful visit to China last year led to in-depth strategic communication between the leaders of the two countries and reached a broad consensus. France values China's status and role as a major country, firmly adheres to the One-China policy, and is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the leaders, strengthen mechanism-based dialogues in various fields, deepen mutually beneficial economic and trade cooperation, and handle frictions through dialogue and consultation. This year, France assumes the presidency of the G7, and China hosts the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, with the French side looking forward to close multilateral communication and cooperation with China on important global governance issues. The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis, the Iran nuclear issue, and other topics.
