The Colombian government plans to force banks to contribute funds to provide emergency spending.
Colombian Finance Minister Hernn Avila stated during a live broadcast of a cabinet meeting that the country plans to require banks to allocate funds to provide support for government loan guarantees in response to the economic emergency caused by heavy rains and flooding in the Caribbean region. The minister also defended the proposed wealth tax for businesses, which would be used to fund crisis response efforts. Colombia also plans to increase taxes on gambling platforms.
