Hainan: "No Waste Island" project to be constructed in phases this year.
This year, Hainan Province will gradually build a "zero waste island", promote the upgrading of "plastic ban" to "plastic treatment", and deepen the pilot mechanism for realizing the value of ecological products. This was learned by reporters at the recent meeting on the construction of the 2026 National Ecological Civilization Experimental Zone and the province's ecological environment protection work. It was introduced that last year, the air and water quality indicators in Hainan Province both improved. The province's annual average concentration of PM2.5 decreased to a historical best level of 11.8 micrograms per cubic meter, with PM2.5 annual average concentrations in 19 cities and counties all meeting the national first-class standard for the first time. The proportion of excellent air quality days has remained stable at over 98% for five consecutive years. The proportion of surface water in the province reaching or exceeding Class III water quality is 96.9%, and the proportion of nearshore waters with good quality is 99.7%, achieving high-quality completion of the goals for the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan".
