Two years ago, Sam Altman expressed strong opposition to the idea of placing advertisements in ChatGPT while attending an event at Harvard University. He said that if ChatGPT were to start inserting paid advertisements into its responses, users would gradually lose trust in the flagship product of the company. "I think advertising is the last resort for us in terms of the business model," Altman said at the time. However, just this week, his company started displaying ads in ChatGPT. In order to build and deploy artificial intelligence technologies like ChatGPT, OpenAI needs to invest billions of dollars in purchasing basic computing power. The San Francisco-based startup is eager to find new revenue streams for these technologies to ultimately achieve financial balance. Selling ads in chatbots is just one of many revenue-generating plans, and all these attempts face significant obstacles. Financial pressure is mounting. According to sources, OpenAI generated around $13 billion in revenue last year. However, the company is expected to invest another $100 billion over the next four years.
