The State Council Information Office held a press conference this morning to introduce the "Spatial Coordination Planning for the Modern Capital Metropolitan Area" and answer questions from reporters. Officials from Beijing introduced the scope of the metropolitan area and the delineation of the three circles, which is not limited to the usual 1-hour commuting range, but based on the unique characteristics of the capital and the strong driving force of the "Four Centers," creatively constructing a multi-level, nested and coordinated "concentric circle" spatial division model. The commuting circle takes into account the current cross-border commuting rate and comprehensive transportation, covering areas where the resident population frequently moves for living and working contacts, based on a radius of about 50 kilometers, including all 12 districts and counties of Beijing and an area of approximately 27,000 square kilometers. The functional circle emphasizes dispersal and enhancement, and is the core area for the development of the capital metropolitan area and the planning entity range, based on a radius of about 100 kilometers, including parts of Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei Xiong'an New Area, as well as some districts and counties of Langfang, Baoding, and Zhangjiakou, with an area of about 42,000 square kilometers.
