Canadian Prime Minister Kenny announced that people who buy or lease purely electric battery-powered vehicles or fuel cell electric vehicles can receive a maximum subsidy of 5000 Canadian dollars; those who buy or lease plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with a price not exceeding 50000 Canadian dollars can receive a maximum subsidy of 2500 Canadian dollars. In order to support the Canadian automotive industry, the price cap of 50000 Canadian dollars does not apply to electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles produced domestically in Canada. Additionally, this subsidy policy only applies to vehicles produced in countries that have signed free trade agreements with Canada.
