Congo President Sassou announces intention to participate in the 2026 presidential election.

Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso announced on the 5th that he will participate in the presidential election scheduled for March 15 while attending an event in Pool Province. Sassou said that his participation in the presidential election in March is aimed at continuing to promote the agricultural development plan he launched in 2021. Eighteen parties in the Congo signed a declaration earlier this month, collectively supporting Sassou's candidacy. As of now, the Congolese government has not yet released a complete list of candidates.
