On the evening of February 4th local time, the spokesperson for the President of Nigeria, Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement saying that President Buhari had deployed a military battalion to Katsina state to "contain the barbaric terrorists and protect vulnerable communities." It was reported by the state broadcaster that on February 3rd, several villages including Waro in the Keana local government area of Katsina state in western Nigeria were attacked, resulting in the killing of at least 162 people by armed militants.
